Media Presentation Skills

A key to success in today's dynamic business environment is to maximise the communication potential of your organisation. The media is a vital means of communicating with your external publics, and using media opportunities effectively is crucial to developing and maintaining a strong organisational image.

The Media Presentation Skills Program at UTS, run by the Australian Centre for Public Communication, is designed to develop the skills and confidence of your staff in interacting with the media and delivering your organisation's messages successfully.

Tailored to the specific needs and experiences of your organisation, the Program offers two and three day short courses of structured workshops that include information sessions on the media and practical media skills training.

Students participate in tutorials that address issues such as understanding how the media operates, what makes news, and how to prepare and present messages for the media. A practicum in the UTS television and/or radio studios engages students in mock scenarios and media interviews so they can put their learning to practice.

Other Short Courses and Workshops

The Australian Centre for Public Communication has a long-standing relationship with the Advertising Federation of Australia in jointly running AdSchool offering practitioners a range of education and training from single stand alone subjects to packaged certificates and articulation into postgraduate degrees.

The Centre also conducts regular seminars on issues of topical interest. For instance, in early 2008 the Centre conducted a seminar to report and discuss research conducted into the use of new media in the 2007 Australian Federal election.

The Australian Centre for Public Communication maintains a close working relationship with a range of industry bodies including the Advertising Federation of Australia, the International Association of Business Communicators, and the Public Relations Institute of Australia.
